Summer 2012 Sneak Peek

Just got home from shooting Daisy & Poncho's Soul-Sing Boutique 2012 look book with my beautiful goddess friend, Jennay. Here's a sneak peek:

The rest of Jenny's looks will be posted tomorrow, Monday Funday (of course), and throughout the week. They are probably going to make you wish you were on a walkabout in the woods.
I felt really excited when I realized that I wished I was wearing all Jenny's outfits and jewelry because that means...I am making and selling what I love.

Bonnie's Washboard

Bonnie Paine's washboard resting in our office. Local Colorado band, Elephant Revival is one of Daisy and Poncho's favorite bands. Check em out!  They are getting ready to release a full, multi-disk retrospective of all their songs, complete with a lyric book, and yet to be selected, artwork.  Cant wait to sneak a peak, listen and read all their powerful lyrics in their entirety. Their style of music is often referred to as "transcendental folk," which incorporates elements of Scottish/Celtic fiddle tunes, original folk pieces, traditional ballads, bluegrass. psychedelic country, indie rock, reggae, 40s/50s jazz standards and an occasional hip hop beat. All members of the band are multi-instrumentalists and contribute vocals and to songwriting. Get ready for a healthy dose of Peace, Love and Understanding; Sure to be appreciated by all you kindred Spirits out there. Cheers, D&P

Tarot Wisdom

I met my good friend, tarot reader, hummus maker, and Reiki teacher, Gary about a year ago when I wandered into my favorite book store and got a tarot reading from him. Every couple of weeks he reads there, and I love to go. Especially if I am feeling a little confused or lost on my path. He is an excellent reader and it is unbelievable how accurate the readings are.
He read cards for me a few days ago. The biggest thing I took away from the reading was: Everything is on time, the universe is unfolding as it should, and the universe is on my side :)

Pursue your passion

Just like an old friend or a trusted confidante, we can count on Alan Watts to inspire and help us realize our own true selves and callings in life.
Like a true spiritual adviser should: He imparts his wisdom not as a guru to the disciple; But as a fellow sentient being offering us a methodology for our own self-discoveries.
This short talk inspired me in several ways.  I particularly enjoyed his thoughts on craftsmanship and vocation. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, but still reassuring none-the-less:  We have all heard the dictum, Do what you love and the money will follow.
Watt's thoughts on the mastery of craft goes even further and points out that we are not alone, nor crazy to pursue our passions. As we master our crafts will eventually find ourselves successful and surrounded by a community of peers who share our same interests. On this level, we will flourish personally, professionally and spiritually.
What could be more gratifying than doing something that you love and surrounding yourself with people who have similar passions?  Sound Good? Try it!
"Better to live a short life doing something that you love, rather than live a long life being miserable".  And there is no reason to postpone our passions and callings in life until we retire. Personally, I love what an old college professor told me once: "Retire early and retire often".
Peace, Luv and understanding, Daisy and Poncho

William's Crystal Corner

The Selby offers an insider’s view of creative individuals in their personal spaces with an artist's eye for detail. Todd Selby is a portrait, interiors, and fashion photographer and illustrator.
I think stories about ordinary people from their point of view are the most compelling, and that is why I enjoy The Selby.
Here, William tells us how we can use crystals, why they are so powerful, and we also get a sense of his spirituality.
We feel like we get to know William and his peaceful disposition. I especially love how he ends his narrative: "Everything comes from our center. From us. It doesn't matter how many crystals you have, or which ones. Everything is found within yourself...and to glimpse that part of yourself is the true meaning of this exercise and this work."

Soul-singing treasures now on Etsy

On Sunday the 15th of April, the Soul-Sing Boutique launched on Etsy! Right now there are 11 handmade jewelry pieces that are ready to be sent to their new homes, but there is lots more to come. In the next two weeks there are plans in the works for two more kinds of products (not including additional jewelry!)
The look book is in the works as well.

Here are some examples of the collection (most made by me, Carrie), at the shop right now:

Driftwood Ickibana

This is an example of the beautiful driftwood that can be found in our back yard. It is Bristlecone Pine Ickibana that Chris collected from the water's edge, several miles below the majestic Long's Peak and Mount Meeker in Colorado. He made it into a wall hanging (Roughly 3 ft high by 2 ft at it's maximum width).
It is an unusually fine specimen of the the oldest living organism on Earth, which thrives at unusually high and inhospitable, Arctic Tundra elevations above Timberline.
The form invokes perseverance, tenacity and dedication to life's purpose even under the harshest conditions of Nature.

The Pleasure of Letters

I found an autograph book from the late 1800s a couple of days ago and found myself absolutely wow’d by the beautiful penmanship. This art might be long-forgotten in our society filled with computers and ipads, but I pledged to snail mail next time I want to get in touch with someone I haven’t spoken to in a while. Maybe I will even get a little fancy with the letters.

After recently reading the article, The Letter You Need to Write, I remembered the simple pleasure and how I feel when I receive an unexpected letter or small package in the mail. Surprised. Excited. Loved. What a simple and lovely way to say you care.

Drift wood journey

Yesterday's beautiful spring weather invited us out on a hike after spending some time working at the store. About 2 miles down the road we came upon the spot, headed up the trail and cracked some brews on the beach of the reservoir! A great way to celebrate spring time!
We also collected a lot of beautifully-shaped drift wood for projects!

 Happy Monday!

The real Daisy and Poncho!

Daisy the donkey is on the left and Poncho the horse is on the right. Daisy is very very sweet, but Poncho is a little grumpy sometimes. It's ok, I gave him some hay and that is why he allowed me to snap this glamorous instagram shot of him and his friend Daisy:

Yesterday was a planting day on the farm: some basil and lavender seeds for tinctures and essential oils and such.

Almost Friday! This weekend will hopefully be full of flea markets. We'll let you know what we find :)

Let your soul sing!

Greetings, friends! Now that Daisy & Poncho's blog is ready for something more than Lorem Ipsum, I want to show you a sneak peek of some of my jewelry designs which will be available mid-April on Etsy. Gems, leather, feathers, and funk are the main ingredients ;)

About the Soul-Sing Boutique
Daisy & Poncho focuses on bringing a sense of place and wonder to its patrons. We know that you're on a search for the realness (we are too) and we want to help you find it!

We're in the process of getting the online website and store up and running where we will carry contemporary and vintage art, jewellery, antiques, books, teas, tinctures, incense, linens, and textiles. Our treasures come from around the world and are made by independent artisans and indigenous communities. We strongly support the the principles of fair and eco-friendly trade; the use of natural, reclaimed and upcycled materials; and the pleasures of collecting vintage and antique treasures.

For now, our blog is here to inspire you and bring the realness straight to your computer screen.
